A song I rather like:
The Ark - Little Dysfunk You (off their new album Prayer for the Weekend). It starts all dung-dung-drums-and-piano-quiet and then there’s “Always quoting Morrissey but did you ever do it with a boy?” (!!!!!!!) and then this massive piano-led chorus about ‘taking you on’ and ‘bleached nostalgia’. It’s a bit Bowie, a bit Bee-Gees, and then, in the end, there is a nice crowd-pleasing (in a good way) ‘la la la’ that goes on for a while, and then the song ends.
Now, having a Morrissey reference in a song does not mean that I will automatically like it, but, c’mon,
“Always quoting Morrissey but
did you ever do it with a boy?”
